Russian prime minister Dimitri Medvedev has banned federal and municipal governments from buying foreign built cars. According to him since the state spends huge sums of money on buying equipment it's better that the money goes to domestic companies.
Many car manufacturers are safe since they already have factories in Russia but Mercedes-Benz for example is forced to start assembling cars in Russia if it wants to continue selling them to the government.
The new law will not only affect federal officials but also public transport, emergency services and transport companies.
